EXIT MUG SET
Our first drink-ware release, the EXIT Mug Set utilizes three different mathematical concepts as metaphors for exploring the struggle for freedom and agency:
Escape Velocity: Simply put, escape velocity is the minimum speed necessary for an object to permanently leave the gravitational pull of a celestial body. In the diagram, you see the ways our efforts to escape an large established system can capture us and bring back in.
Penrose Tiles: Penrose tiles is an example of "aperiodic tiling" in which a set of tiles can be used to create a pattern using a limited set of tiles -- in Penrose's case, it was 2 -- that can be spread out to infinity without repeating itself. Penrose tiles is a meditation on iteration and creativity, simplicity and difference. As you look at the set of tiles you will find numerous local patters emerge and disappear.
Vector Fields: Vector fields represent the magnitude and direction of points in space. Vector Fields remind us that we do not act in a vacuum. All our actions take place in a field of other actions and forces.
These graphics are set up the backdrop of a plan white office mug. The ubiquity of these mugs in our lives numbs us to what they symbolize: the corporation and the corporate economy.
